Go read up on n95 masks. On the packaging it says one time use only. Doctors frequently change their throughout the day because that is best practice for protection. Not only are Americans not using n95 masks according to the same procedures as medical professionals (like using the same one for days and weeks), but most are using cotton/cloth masks. Cloth masks work for ONE COUGH. That's it. The second cough expels the first cough into the air and no one is protected anymore. There are plenty of articles out there (Pre covid hysteria) that will spell everything out. The science didn't change in 2020 just because of covid. Fauci even admitted they told Americans to start using cloth masks because there was a shortage of N95 for medical personnel where it was really needed. The cloth masks are more placebo that protection once you let facts seep in over beliefs.

First lets assume (for easier math) that wearing a mask reduces the risk of getting a virus is the same as reducing the risk of spreading a virus. Let's assume it reduces the chance from 100% to 10% (so a 90% reduction).
2 people. Neither is wearing a mask. If one of them has the virus the other person will get the virus with 100%
2 people. One is wearing the mask and the other not. If either of them has the virus the chance of the other getting the virus is 10%.
2 people. Both are wearing the mask. If one has the virus the chance of the other getting it is 1% (10% chance of spreading it and then 10% chance of getting it).
Keep in mind that is under the assumption that masks do work.
Vaccines actually work on the same principle. Theyre not 100% effective but if enough people get them the broken up chains of transmission slows the spread significantly.

I read in another thread that there were two major strains of this Chinese flu - one lethal and one nonlethal. I think in the beginning everyone was afraid that the lethal one was spreading.But now it seems that it was the non-lethal one. So now the masks are pretty much pointless.
