Along these lines, I was watching old cartoons with my son for Father's Day, and we saw an episode of Johnny Quest in which Johnny and Hadji said their evening prayers before going to bed -- "God bless Dad and Race and Bandit." It took me by surprise. Then the fact that I found a televised expression of faith so surprising made me a little depressed about how far our society has fallen. No doubt Johnny Quest would be cancelled just for having a character named Hadji, much less showing a smart, handsome, athletic young man engaged in prayer.

It's even shocking back then, when the original Charlie Brown Christmas Special aired on TV Charles Schultz had to fight tooth and nail to keep the speech Linus gives about the true meaning of Christmas because the network didn't want to offend the non-religious. Schultz had to make it a huge plot point in the movie so that the network could not possibly edit it out.

I think both of these examples are something Christian entertainment could stand more of -- telling a good story with good characters first, instead of making every movie or episode a mini sermon.
