The reason you were "bullied" (lol) is because generally we see the mask stuff as a sign of irrational, media-conditioned fear. If you're a healthy human being there's no reason to use it. It's also been politicized by the left and used as a proxy for control. So we lash out, rightfully so I think. But if you want to wear a mask, wear a mask.
I will say that I agree with you in regards to the evangelical conservatism. The rest of us generally mind our own business, but they lash out against things they perceive to be "immoral" or "not conservative enough" or "too conservative." It's annoying and it drives people away. There's also people trying to control the type of language and opinions allowed.
