It applies to both boys and girls, of course. I memorized this poem when I was in middle school, and encountered it again as an adult. I realized that I had met every one of those criteria by the time I was 30, including the part about having everybody around me losing their heads, and blaming it on me.
These are the things an adult needs to be able to do, in order to live well in the world and protect a family. Raise your kids to this standard.
This is why radicals want to get R. Kipling out of the school curriculum. It's not because he is a dead, white male, but because solid families that raise competent adults are a barrier to The Revolution.
