It'll have a lovely life with guaranteed food and water and no natural predators.
Tarantulas actually make pretty good captives because they generally prefer confined spaces. It makes them feel secure because of their poor eyesight. Generally they don't stray far from their burrows, unless they're a sexually mature male trying to breed before dying.
I have a tremendous soft spot for creatures that are misunderstood and therefore hated. That's why I keep a lot of the animals I do. They get a bad rap, and I enjoy tell people what makes them wonderful. Kind of like how we spend our energy here correcting fake news about conservatives.
There are quite a few of them (tarantulas) in central Texas and further south. Don't see many of them in north Texas.
Several years ago, took some time off and was basically just hanging out at a friends lake house for a few weeks and they would come out very late afternoon, evening in the summertime. Pretty timid things actually. At least whatever species these were. They were dark brown.
It's the opposite for me. The one animal I have that my girlfriend DOESN'T like is my dog. I'm allowed to have all of the spiders, scorpions, centipedes, snakes, and lizards I want, but she LOATHES my dog, and he's a well behaved dog too.
Orange man is the most dangerous thing on earth to leftists and this is the most dangerous thing on earth to cockroaches. Basically the same thing, right?
This isn't my first baboon. I also have an H. pulchripes. With these guys I only do rehousings in Rubbermaid tubs or the bathtub. Just to flighty, fast, and fierce. I just love the way baboon species look. They just look more athletic and majestic to me.
Isn't that what Euathlus sp. red got classified as? I've heard they're wonderful too. I do want to add one.
This one is my 9th Tarantula.
Or, keeping with the satanism theme: Marina Abramovich?
There's actually a few dwarf species that are high on my list. H. chilensis is pretty high up there. I've heard they have big, endearing personalities for such a little tarantula.
I'm actually on the lookout for a Texas Redheaded Centipede to add to my invertebrate collection. As far as I can tell, it's the most MAGA creature there is.
Ew. That thing eats furry, beautiful creatures. Anyone that can do that to another living breathing thing is a monster to me. In nature is one thing, but to willingly facilitate it speaks of the person who wants to see that.
Ok, well I stand corrected. I saw one once, in a pet store when I was 7 or 8, eating a live mouse and looked at its face as it was dying and have never gotten over it. Sorry for judging you. Early childhood trauma.
People do occasionally feed rodents to tarantulas, but they're not a healthy diet for them. Additionally, for my animals that do eat rodents, I refuse to feed live because I've kept mice and rats as pets before. I'm not at all in favor of any unnecessary suffering of any animal.
This is the best name.
Well, in the hobby these guys are known as Orange Bitey Things (originally it stood for Orange Baboon Tarantula).

My sister had one named Rocky for a brief time. I've found I'm much more into aquariums, reptiles, and invertebrates.

Those are all males trying to find a lady to breed with before they die. Females and juvenile males tend not to stray too far from their burrows.
The species you saw was likely Aphonopelma hentzi. Mature males of the species tend to be much darker than females and juveniles.
Boy: Agent Orange, Girl: Clementine
I like it 👍🏻
omg it's gorgeous!
Baboon tarantulas frequently have amazing colors (but a painful bite)
Look up H. pulchripes for another beautiful baboon species. To me they look like they're wearing armor with the gray/blue on their legs.
I'm gonna have to outlive my wife before there's any hope of me having one of these magnificent specimens. She has a strict rule of 4 legs or fewer.

Mr. Pompadour

The dreaded OBT?! Watch the fuck out, man! Woooooo hooooo they are faasssst!
If you want a tarantula that’s slow and cute I recommend the Homoeomma chilenis. It’s a dwarf tarantula and one of the sweetest pets I’ve ever owned.
Name it Lucifer

Yup the Euathlus sp. red. They are very cute and also lively. And not too expensive!
Maybe you should just call it: The bringer of death

Centipede.

I was thinking Gorilla Channel
Donald Trumpantula.
Both orange
Both fiercely protect their homes
Both have two curved hollow fangs
🤔
Orange Spider Bad
Spidey McSpiderface
Tyson
Handsome spider. No clue on a name, but it like xir.
OBTs are a very visually striking species

It eats crickets and roaches...
