Apple needs to lose their iron grip on what apps are allowed or not. If a .win app existed or is in development there’s not a good chance it’d be approved right now. Same thing for Ruqqus or any other free-speech platform. I believe if Apple was unable to ban apps except for illegal content (which includes viruses, phishing, copyright infringement, etc.) which all US companies need to remove anyway, platforms such as Reddit / Twitter would have fallen in popularity long ago. Being able to have an app has put them at such an advantage in terms of exposure and convenience. Web apps are a nice stop gap but they don’t have push notifications or as swanky UIs.
If there's a law separating software from hardware or specifically marketplaces from OS + hardware, the phone becomes more like a digital mall. Right now I believe the App Store in itself is an anti-competitive practice. We need a revolution in digital legislation that protects consumers against the predatory practices of Big Tech. We're paying insane amounts for devices we ultimately have very little control over. They take all the advantage.

Actually they can with OneSignal.com or if the mods are good enough use the open source version available on GitHub.
