Term limits will only drive the institutional power and memory away from the elected members and push it to the unelected staffers who already are permanent fixtures.
Do you want an unaccountable, unelected deep state? Cause this is how you get an unelected, unaccountable deep state.
The disparity between the 20% approval and the 90% retention is because they are measuring two different things.
90% of the congressional membership must have greater than 50% approval in their home district or they would not be reelected. Since congressional districts are roughly equal in population, it follows that each member of congress requires only 1/2 of 1/435th of the population to approve. This works out to a .11% approval of the general voting population.
If each congressional member where universally hated outside their district, then it is possible for Congress to receive a 0% approval and still have 100% retention of incumbents. The current turnover rates have actually been quite a bit higher than simple math would predict.
Term limits will likely expand the power of the unelected deep state because it is predicated on a grossly simplified desire for how Congress should work rather than the reality of how it actually operates.
The Republicrats want power, and they don't care if it is divided between two slightly different parties (though of late, there are fewer and fewer moderate democrats, for sure).
BigCorp will support BOTH parties, to get their part.
So, where do we end up... some sort of highly centralized technocratic government which becomes fascist. (... posted from my iPhone...).
Term Limits.
Repeal the 17th Amendment.
Repeal the income tax.
Not willing to hand over my vote to a socialist just to prove a point to a RINO. Term limits solve this - to a degree. I know another cuck might be next, but we at least get a chance and assholes like Lindsay “totally not a fag” Graham will be shown the door.
This is the practical problem with Term Limits. In order to effectively push them forward you have to develop the power and relationships within Congress/the Senate. This takes time to build... and just about the time you start making head way your term limit wanting base of voters starts to decide that you're part of the problem or at least a hypocrite.
This used to be my argument against term limits. Then I realized that we have to deal in reality, not some fictional world.
Even where there is consensus among politically literate voters, a general election brings in voters who vote by non-political reasons.
Look up Lisa Murkowski, daughter of a well liked politician in Alaska, who lost the Republican primary but won the general election still.

Hi, you're saying that we currently do NOT have an unaccountable, unelected deep state? We do.
Term limits would at least give us a chance every 8 (or so) years.

WE NEED TERM LIMITS
WE NEED TERM LIMITS NOW

Ted Cruz already introduced term limits bill
Cruz will probably run again in 2024 and I'll definitely support him if he's pushing for term limits!

The problem is the same dumb-asses keep on voting in the same other dumb-asses!
No, we do need term limits. Being a congressman or senator should be service after gaining life experience. It should not be a career.
