Its not that covid was a hoax. Its that the really wanted to create fear by talking it up and making it sound dangerous for the reasons you have mentioned this has given Biden a nice 6 month break in an election year. He wont come back to full Biden he will be only coming out some times due to 2nd wave. But I think that strategy will back fire.
