Many Christians have misconstrued the meaning of that passage. Basically it's telling you to not react in anger to challenging situations. However, it is not saying to never react at all.

Jesus was all about common sense and doing the right thing, and He told us a fight was coming. So when we do fight, we must not do so in anger.
