Asking a serious question if anyone has an answer.

When did this definition change?

I'd assume slaves were bought, sold, moved around throughout all of history but now slavery seems to refer only to the antebellum United States.

Was this trademarked? Did the manuals of style make a change? Was this to add it to a list of e everything that's trafficked?

Thank you. I drive by billboards about Trafficking and it sure seems like they are saying slavery.
