As an Army guy, I had no idea who Mattis was, only heard about him before the 2016 election. I’ll admit I bought into the crayon eaters’ hype about him, though I should have trusted my first gut instincts about the guy.
He rubbed me wrong for three reasons: 1) he didn’t try to downplay the buzz surrounding him, 2) He’s been an unmarried bachelor for so long, somethings weird about that, and 3) that he was always constantly talking about reading books. I mean, I read a shit ton of things, but I’ve come to learn to be wary of anyone that makes “book reading” a core part of their identity. Its a dead give away for someone with an intellectual inferiority complex. They believe everything that’s in their books, and want to appear intelligent for the ‘smart crowd.’ It’s probably why he was cool with trannies and women in combat units, he wanted the accolades from the other ‘smart people.’ Leftists fall into this trap, as do many conservative intellectuals, who coincidentally are oftentimes Never Trumpers.
