Sorry, but that is not the kind of letter lawyers of any stripe write when reporting potential criminal activity.

Yea having worked for a PI form for 5 years that wasn’t written by a lawyer. It’s photoshopped

I'm an attorney and that letter is terrible + it doesn't matter if you "AT NO TIME DID I TELL IT WAS A CONFIDENTIAL CONVERSATION" you'd still have your ass handed to you by the ethics board

The grammar and word choice is wrong in a few places. I imagine that’s not the kind of mistake a lawyer makes.

Lawyers can make mistakes. This is not simply a letter with mistakes. The whole thing is a nightmare.

Can we start calling decent, God-fearing, America-loving lawyers "rules nerds" instead?

6
muslimporn 6 points ago +7 / -1

I don't think it's actually clear. It's not explicitly stated in the letter that they intend to commit crimes.

HOWEVER

You can read between the lines and the reasoning given is so fucking retarded it would not be possible for someone that clinically retarded to be even finishing high school let alone even a standard university course even if it's on of the courses for the average joe rather than the above average intellect.

It simply CANNOT be sincere. It's blatant they're not afraid of being mistaken for antifa or rioters. This is also called being a shitty liar, the way it's written is filled with tells.

terrichris 1 point ago +1 / -0

This was a well crafted letter. I doubt it's authored by a 19 or 20 year old.

1
muslimporn 1 point ago +1 / -0

Standards might have slipped today but that's not what I would call well crafted.

However there is an intent which it does achieve.

It's not incompatible with what might be expected of a 19 year old.

However again statements such as about being a "long time" supporter of BLM did make me feel uncertain of the age assuming it's not contrived.

The low quality of the writing in some places is questionable. It's not the level I would expect of a college student.

There are strange mannerisms in the email that I can't explain. These appear contrived and further reduce its authenticity.

Google for "finds you in good regards" and there's only 5 results. Wouldn't even surprise me if one of those wrote the letter.

The only thing that really comes up for that bizarre turn of phrase is a legal troll going after website accessibility which fits the bill. Also perhaps a lawyer dispute of some kind I can't be bothered to look into.

I think it's possibly related somehow this lawyer who has been outed for malpractice:

Rosales, an attorney, sent letters to several healthcare facilities claiming that their websites did not meet the requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act. He also attached a proposed lawsuit that he said he was going to file against them unless they paid him $2,000. He signed the letters “O. Rosales Attorney at Law ceo.cenvetaccess.org”. Several of the providers filed grievances against Rosales with the Office of the Chief Disciplinary Council of the State Bar of Texas. Eventually, the State Bar filed suit against Rosales in the Travis County District Court. Rosales filed a motion to dismiss under the Texas anti-SLAPP, TCPA, law. The State Bar responded that the TCPA did not apply to lawyer disciplinary proceedings and even if it did, they met their burden to show by clear and specific evidence a prima facie case for each essential element of the claim. The trial court granted the motion and dismissed the claim by the State Bar. The State Bar appealed.

Here is a sample of the troll emails they were sending:

Dear Clinic Director:

I hope this letter finds you in good regards. Enclosed is a copy of the Federal lawsuit to be filed in the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division, against your clinic. This lawsuit alleges violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title 42 U.S.C. §12101 and §12181 (known as the "ADA") that occur on your company's website.

As you are aware, the Americans with Disabilities Act applies to websites. Disabled individuals have the right to access and obtain information about medical clinics, doctor's offices, and urgent care centers. Disabled individuals, such as myself, use these websites to obtain and book suitable medical treatment. Under Federal law, your website must comply with the new requirements of the ADA and WCAG 2.0 AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines). I have completed a survey of your website for ADA compliance. Your website failed. I have attached the ADA review of your website that lists the areas where your site is not in compliance with Federal law and Title III of the ADA.

In addition, to receive Federal funds through Medicaid, Medicare, and the Children's Health Insurance Partnership (CHIP), you have agreed to comply with all Federal Rules and Regulations. Since your website does not comply with Federal law, you must immediately self-report to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and forfeit any Federal funds received until you have completed recertification.

Our Initial Demand to settle this unfiled lawsuit is $2000. Should you refuse to enter settlement negotiations, I will have no choice but to file the attached lawsuit against your company. I will also contact DHHS and discuss the possibility of a separate civil suit under Qui Tam doctrine to obtain reimbursement of Federal Tax dollars that you improperly obtained from the government. Please contact me, so that we may resolve these issues.

Sincerely,

/s/ O. Rosales O. Rosales Attorney-at-law ceo.cenvetaccess.org

Imagine being such a fucking idiot corrupt incompetent lawyer that you send the same unique intro in all your scam emails even when trying to hide your identity that anyone can just think who the fuck says that is that a normal thing to say I think I'll google that.

It could be coincidence but I find it very suspect.

Why the caps? And serious, they want FREE legal services? Fuck these people for so many reasons...

22
kekNation 22 points ago +22 / -0

That lawyers letter is shit. I suspect both were written by the same person as both are written with similar grammatical structure and typos. Only a really shitty attorney would ever consider sending an all caps message to any government agency or official as the CAPS immediately denote non-professional authorship. This feels like it belongs in ‘things that didn’t happen’ category.

7
nachosamplerREBORN 7 points ago +7 / -0

Kind of what I was thinking - you’d also think the letter would be a bit more professional.

Exactly. What is the FBI supposed to do with this?

Here is what the letter says:

“Hey, FBI, someone said they are worried the government might violate their rights or the rights of their friends and they asked if I would offer pro bono assistance if that fear comes to fruition.”

Even if we assume everything here is true this is the sort of thing Van Jones would classify as a nothing burger.

freewillsetstruth 3 points ago +5 / -2

All caps provides fewer identifiable habits in the lawyer's writing. Making him/her more anonymous.

nachosamplerREBORN 1 point ago +1 / -0

I suppose that makes sense.

Wow that's one amazing lawyer. I bet everyone clapped.

Yeah this letter is not something he'd have to write in secret or act like this.

He could literally contact federal law enforcement about out of state actors who approached him seeking his services with whom he had no attorney-client relationship at that point and who is seeking his services in aid to evade consequences for the commencement of criminal acts.

In several states he is professionally REQUIRED to report any such plans to commit a crime for which the prospective client desires to engage his services.
