This is a great example of the gaslighting going on every day among well-meaning middle class "progressives" that we have to overcome.
One side is toppling Union abolitionist statues, rioting, targeting and physically assaulting even their own politicians, and the other side is saying "that's wrong" and hoping this burns out before it comes to their neighborhood.
"Both sides are absolute shit." Translation: It's obvious that I was wrong, but I refuse to change course to save the country if that means even privately admitting I was wrong, so I will just pretend that both sides are doing this to feel better about myself.
Ah yes, the old "you don't have free will" black pill.
We have free will, or agency, because there is an objective moral law that comes from a higher power - call it divine judgement or karma. Absent that, everything is subjective and either irrelevant or determined by external conditions.
To reject one's ability to tell good from evil and make personal choices derived from that is to reject God and embrace Marxist materialism.
There is always a choice, and therefore always "sides" - those who choose to do good or those who choose to do evil. People may be too afraid or too complacent or too confused to make the right choice, but there is always a choice.
No no no don’t do that. Listen, man, politics is war by other means, and one of the horrors of war is that it lacks nuance. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that because both sides do bad things, it doesn’t matter which side ends up winning. Good and evil are gradual. Some things really are worse than others. Ideally, before God, we should strive for moral perfection. But practically, when presented with a choice such as ours, that’s not an option on the table. For example, the Nazis were the bad guys in World War II, but America was not exactly morally pure. That doesn’t mean that Americans should have sat it out and thought of the outcome as irrelevant. Choose the better thing. Look at what the left is promoting and honestly compare it to what the right offers, and if the attitudes of people on this site—which can sometimes be immoral—bother you, then don’t hang out here. Don’t let some people’s behavior drag you to a place where you end up staying out of the fight. The country needs you.

It's political narcissism.
