This is a great example of the gaslighting going on every day among well-meaning middle class "progressives" that we have to overcome.

One side is toppling Union abolitionist statues, rioting, targeting and physically assaulting even their own politicians, and the other side is saying "that's wrong" and hoping this burns out before it comes to their neighborhood.

"Both sides are absolute shit." Translation: It's obvious that I was wrong, but I refuse to change course to save the country if that means even privately admitting I was wrong, so I will just pretend that both sides are doing this to feel better about myself.

It's political narcissism.

Ah yes, the old "you don't have free will" black pill.

We have free will, or agency, because there is an objective moral law that comes from a higher power - call it divine judgement or karma. Absent that, everything is subjective and either irrelevant or determined by external conditions.

To reject one's ability to tell good from evil and make personal choices derived from that is to reject God and embrace Marxist materialism.

There is always a choice, and therefore always "sides" - those who choose to do good or those who choose to do evil. People may be too afraid or too complacent or too confused to make the right choice, but there is always a choice.
