If you think that Google doesn't know who you are (by now), you must be living under a rock.

Just create a fake phone number via Google Voice. Checkmate lol

10
NancyPeloci 10 points ago +11 / -1

Can't you just get a free Google voice number and use that?

GenericInsult [S] 5 points ago +8 / -3

I was hesitant at first too, and held off.

After seeing the number of Right-Wing Politicians, News Outlets, and peeps on there persuaded me to go ahead and just do it.

Agreed.

FL_Trumpnado 10 points ago +12 / -2

No fucking need at all for a phone number. F that

12
AnimalChin 12 points ago +14 / -2

Yep. If email is required, no need for both. They just want a way to ID an individual.

I mean, I get your apprehension, and I am not going to goad or shame you on this topic. It's your choice, but if you think that entering your phone number is taboo, and you interact anywhere else online, your idea of being secure is wildly off. I think the phone number is more for 2FA than anything. I get why you wouldn't want to hand over any more information than you have too, for security reasons, but don't kid yourself if you think you are safe on the internet, so long as you don't share your phone number. If it bothers you that much, spoof a number, from some site or get a burner phone.

The Parler shilling here is out of control. Why the hell is thier whole sales force out here on TD pushing this crap. Every 3rd of 4th post is more parler crap wrappend in some fake "news".

1
Dirk_Diggler 1 point ago +1 / -0

In all fairness, its the same "shilling" that got me to switch to "dotwin" from reddit. Shit, I can assure you I have no vested intrest in parler, per se. But I can get behind funneling people away from twitter en masse, to make a spectacle out of why people are doing it. I'd like to see Twitter go the way of Myspace or Digg, mainly to the favor of free speech. And if it turns out to not be what it says it is, we can ditch that too. We can't keep crying about censorship when we can self regulate in the free market, I'd rather not have the government be forced to intervene when we can just starve these technocrats out. Just my 2 cents, beleive me or don't or call me a shill or what have you, I'm just trying to give a perspective.

While I agree the phone number thing is a red flag, it's also used to send a OTC for verification

Nadlers_Belt 18 points ago +18 / -0

I wish you could at least read posts without being forced to sign up first.

13
Pirate_Patriot 13 points ago +14 / -1

Agreed. They’re really handicapping themselves by not allowing it.

14
AnimalChin 14 points ago +15 / -1

Sucks it wants your phone number. That's why I never had Twitter.

4
67Vert 4 points ago +4 / -0

I only used an email when I signed up. But that was a while back

What's w/ all the Parler shilling here?

7
Seven_Six_2 7 points ago +9 / -2

This post is the 11th "lets go to Parler post (ad?)" in the past 6 hours on TD. HEY PARLER: quit astroturfing and change the requirement to provide phone numbers! And if it is so great... go there... stay there... you are choking up the feed with your parler ads

4
DeadOverRed 4 points ago +4 / -0

Amen.

Twitter is banning conservatives like CarpeDonktum and they are posting on Parler

3
GenericInsult [S] 3 points ago +6 / -3

It is a Free-Speech Twitter alternative. (And it rules)

5
AnimalChin 5 points ago +5 / -0

Who makes/owns it?

6
67Vert 6 points ago +7 / -1

Dan Bongino just became a partner

GenericInsult [S] 1 point ago +3 / -2

Not sure, but you can bet if the MSM is attacking them, they are on the right side of things.

Looks like this is the CEO. Would be interested in a dig on him, and his wife if he has one.

The phone number keeps the trolls and bots away making for a clean and secure platform. It's like a gate.

5
Seven_Six_2 5 points ago +5 / -0

There are other ways to authenticate. They have chosen this way. Just got a new personal phone - switched cause I used to give it out for all apps. Never again. Never. I will do without Parler just fine.

4
Staatssicherheit 4 points ago +5 / -1

The first step is to allow people to browse it without signing up.

1
Stupidandgeeky 1 point ago +1 / -0

Agreed, they do not need my personal information just to let me see the content.

I understand requiring an account to reply and using 2pa to keep bots from going wild, but this feels like Pinterest level crap.

Another Parler ad....

We have to create Twatter accounts before the election to submits Memes about the opponent.
