Me neither. That's a false headline. Saying '65% of Americans' sound like they polled every single American. And they most certainly didn't. Was this a poll that was put online?

65% of sampled Americans. It's not uncommon nor misleading phrasing in statistics so long as sampling methods are transparent. Nobody expects the entire population to be polled.
