Or deaths may not happen at all. Why do you say new infections are starting to spike? Any chance that testing is increasing, which makes it look like infections are spiking? I guess that's not the narrative though, right?

New infections per day are rising (slowly now, but may increase exponentially without intervention), testing has increased immensely. The rate of positive test results has fallen as testing increased.
The entire country is infected with the virus. It's spread throughout our population and there's no containing it. The testing is proving that fact. You can wear your little dog mask and be compliant and still get infected or even transmit it to someone else. By doing lockdowns and business shutdowns, and wearing our dog masks, we still have done nothing to stop it. All we did is make it worse on ourselves and hand the Dem party a tool to collapse an economy.
Its endemic, yes, but so far fewer than 1% of the population has been confirmed infected.

Face the facts, we all are going to get this. The longer you can avoid getting WhuFlu the seriousness goes down (minus mutations). Prepare for getting it by being healthy as possible.

A virus that kills it victims in 24 hours never has a chance to spread, unless it is a zombie virus that makes people bite other people.
Assuming there is no vaccine, yes, we will all get it. But deaths will be much higher if we all get it at the same time, since that would strain medical resources for those who need them.
Also, by dragging this out it buys some time to find better treatment options, and/or protocols as you mentioned.
That's what the lockdown was supposed to be for. It's been four months since this virus appeared. We have had all the time we needed to assemble data and resources to treat this thing.
At some point you have to realize that your army has enough ammunition and weaponry and just start fighting the war. We can't be in a perpetual state of "lockdown" just waiting until we have the absolute perfect idea of how to treat WuFlu and all of its impacts. Eventually we have to fucking face it head on and admit the fact that young, healthy people don't deserve to be kept in isolation and have their economic livelihoods and social lives ruined for something that doesn't even negatively impact 99% of the population.
