My opinion on it is there is a real second wave in Texas. Lots of people are out--its a much different look than it was in April. That's if you want to call it a second wave because there was never much of a first wave.
Still though, there's not even been a correlation with testing positive for the virus and even at any point suffering from any sort of sickness. Just like when there was a big peak in New York, there was supposed to be tens of thousands on ventilators and need of hospital ships, etc. and it never materialized. Texas isn't even trending towards using up basic hospital capacity with all the other regular hospital uses going on.
I really think number of positive cases means nothing. Deaths are still trending down. The cases are used to scare people to add more government control. Just look at the situation today--it's just like it was in March. In March it was "Everyone lockdown!! It's coming for you! Exponential growth! You're all going to die!" Today's narrative is exactly the same just replace lockdown with masks. It's following the same pattern, the liberal places run to mask everyone up, the purple places follow, and if the pattern continues it will swallow up almost everywhere.
I wrote Abbott today about the mask BS. He didn't actually order masks, but he's endorsing or approving of those cities and counties who are mandating them. Some of these counties like Travis have mandated masks in businesses through August 15th. And the enforcers of those mandates will be the businesses themselves. If they don't comply, they face fines and losing their licenses. That's unacceptable and I read that the Texas R's are pushing Abbott to reconsider his stance. I hope some lawsuits are being filed against these cities and counties.
That's spread to Dallas and Tarrant county too (I think I also heard Bexar, probably others). But you're right, they are essentially strong arming the businesses into enforcing it. On top of myself hating the requirement, that's a really scummy way to force it. I've even seen heavy TDS pro-mask liberals that work places and aren't happy that they are supposed to enforce it.
I hope there are some lawsuits too. We have laws and rights for a reason and it's all just cast aside. If they want masks so bad then follow the proper channels with the legislature. They won't do that because it wouldn't get through the proper channels.
