I know the two seem similar in nature, but to someone who's looked at this kind of behavior for a long time the difference between faculty deliberating changes through discussion and being forced into a decision change without a vote cannot be mistaken as the same situation. It is not the same for a committee of independent liberal minded members to agree on liberal policies (even if they're morons) than it is for an angry activist mob to dictate what those officials can be for or against.
