"Long" life vehicles my ass! Worst thing about them is they didn't anticipate the growth in package delivery, and there's just no fugging room to organize shit. If you get a CCA with 80+ packages, good fucking luck seeing your package on time if you're on the last loop.
I'm more of a rural, and those things wind up staying on for 3-4 hours non stop 6 days a week (and sometimes 7). To have them not catch on fire is the real surprise.
Well they are long life vehicles; they were built between 1984 and 1996. That's damn long for a truck that's driven all day every day. They've just come to the end of their lives, that's all.
Most of the fleet is old Grumman trucks with aluminum bodies and GM Iron Duke 4 cyl motors - from the early '90's. Expect more mechanical problems, not less.
I hate when USPS trucks spontaneously combust, happens all the time
Not sure if that's a joke, because they now do.
You can break rules as a carrier, but if they truck lights up they'll sweep everything under the rug rather than admit our vehicles are tinderboxes.

I normally get my packages after 6:PM
