I recently got to my breaking point at work after my coworkers non stop Trump/Republican bashing ,I never have mentioned that I don't agree but will state an opinion on things without out right saying I'm on a certain side. Recently I've said please stop with the political talk because i'm just emotionally drained from hearing it all day, nobody cares. Next day I say please enough I dont want to hear it,I dont agree with your stance and this isn't the place to be talking about this and go to the office per request of my supervisor(knew nothing would happen) more and more they talk to piss me off. Seems to be no laws for the work place on this issue unless I claim harassment, am I right?

I would but NC has a law called at will where you can be terminated for any made up thing.

I know nothing about the legal side and can't give advice. But I'm old and pretty good at the human side and how to deal with people. So here is my advice: remain as cheerful as possible. Even if you're not feeling it. A calm, pleasant, cheerful demeanor will do more to hurt them than any argument ever could. Laugh at them internally for they are idiots. Do not allow them to harsh your mellow. Tune them out if you can and go about your day doing the best job you can at your job. You can't change other people, only your reaction to them. Controlling your emotions is your choice. And your serenity and happiness will drive miserable people absolutely batshit crazy.

Agreed. Depending on your place of employment, HR might be (and let’s face it: at this point almost certainly is) on the side of your cowokers. I say this as a young’n who stayed at my former wokeplace for way too long, and had to listen to people go on about how evil conservatives and Trump are. And you know what? The worst offender was the office manager. And the two head honchos of the office are dyed in the wool Democrats besides. Nothing would have changed had I complained. I had already gone to the senior partner with complaints about the manager’s behavior and given some BS that basically amount to bending over and taking it up the cornhole, like he did.

Just for the record, I’m about as anti-blackpill as it gets. But sometimes there just ain’t much you can do. It blows, but at least OP has friends here. Y’all definitely make my life better.

I'm sorry you went through that. It blows. Sometimes being a responsible adult means doing jobs which are not enjoyable with people who are unpleasant. At least in the old days there were social norms which dictated that certain topics (sex, money, politics, religion) were off limits outside of your immediate family and closest friends. That's all broken now. And most people today are completely emotionally incontinent. Because they've been taught that's normal. But it's not. Every one of us still has a choice and no one can make you miserable without your consent. Remaining unflustered and not engaging despite their attempts helps keep their misery out of your life. Because who wants that?

“Emotionally incontinent.” That’s gold. I’m old-school, I s’pose, because I completely agree with you. I put my time in and I learned a lot. I had a ton of growing up to do when I started working there, and I did exactly that. I always tried to do right by them, even when they did wrong by me. My only regret is staying there as long as I did. The Kung Flu got me out of dodge, and I’m not going back.

I actually have never said anything until this week when it got to be too much and I never said anything negative about them or what they think only I dont want to hear that talk at work. I actually like discussion with people who can.

Stay strong and stay happy and stay safe. It's not a good situation to be in. How you react is up to you. You can still tune them out, or change the subject. I hope it works out. But sometimes things go sideways. And when they do its still up to each of us to choose how to respond and to build something positive out of the experience. Anyway, good luck. Your pede frens have your back. ❤

Gotta speak up if you wanna spread the good word, it's easier to shy away from it. If they dont respect your wishes to stop talking politics, theres a quick way to end that conversation.

Keep in mind nobody who's a dem has ever been told to their face other people have other opinions

I should have recorded it but I have read the laws and pretty sure you have to ask to record in NC at work place

Thats ok but look at this technique: Take notes while the recorder is hidden and running. The recorder can be taken home and played so the notes can be completed in full. Sign them and get a notary on it. Of course the recorder can't be used in court, but it can be used to make complete notes.

All businesses record phone conversations and that's how someone got in trouble calling a business and spreading even true rumors. The Business had the person's voice and called the workplace and a cease and desist letter was written by a lawyer, nothing can be proved though since the person wasn't warned of a recording, but they could lose their job.

I read another poster that worked for a state rehab facility. He had to watch politically correct videos that decried white privilege.

Its a technique called gaslighting. The groups suspect a Trump supporter then use this indirect technique of combat. Every dirty cowardly, murderous technique is used by leftists to defeat their enemies and bring in another leftist.

A family member has this occur at her place of worship and where she works. That group is poison.

sorry to hear that

Just approach it as simple harassment. This is enough. Tell HR, "the politics is just the vehicle they use", those coworkers are harrassing you, they would use anything that would work. And your direct supervisor turns a blind eye, which amounts to retaliation. This will get some action. If that action gets you fired, SUE them. Do not be nice and understanding (be polite and honest), they will not return the courtesy. Document now, not tomoorow, and hire that attorney as soon as this looks like termination. Do NOT Wait!

Are you in a “single-party consent” or “two-party consent” state? If you are in a single party state, keep a recording device with you at all times. You can get a decent digital recorder for under $75 these days.

“Hostile Work Environment” is the phrase you are looking for.

Don't let them torture you. It would be much more fun if you torture them! Throw Trump quotes and phrases into your speech. Bigly! Sad! We have the best sales figures, don't we? Wear a blue suit and red tie, a flag pin, a cross!

It is a huge issue. Way too widespread. Would need to know more about your company to respond helpfully. But you are right, political speech should be banned in the work place, especially if it is harassing and harms your productivity. Firing back with arguments is not a helpful suggestion. You shouldn’t have to. Cuz you deserve a harassment free workplace.

It’s like sexual harassing. But political. If you have an HR department, complain. Keep us in the loop. This is a huge issue.

well I did go to HR they said they cant police everyone and gave me a look so I pretty much knew from that point on they said I dont care about you,I've worked for them for 13 years mind you.

Make them write up a report at least. It’s your right. Perhaps ask a lawyer too who knows more about labor law, etc.
