"But by the time he died, John Lennon was a closet conservative embarrassed by his radical past, according to his former personal assistant.
Fred Seaman claims that the former Beatle was a fan of Ronald Reagan, who went on to become America’s Republican president in 1981 and forged a close political alliance with Margaret Thatcher.
‘John, basically, made it very clear that if he were an American he would vote for Reagan because he was really sour on [Democrat] Jimmy Carter,’ he says in a documentary film.
Seaman worked for Lennon during the year leading up to the star’s death in December 1980 aged 40.
He tells Beatles Stories filmmaker Seth Swirsky that in his final months Lennon was not the left-wing militant worshipped by many of his fans.
‘He was a very different person back in 1979 and 80 than he’d been when he wrote Imagine,’ he says."
I've heard this before and I dunno if its true or not, it doesn't really matter in the end. But at least his son has spoken out against PC culture in the last couple years so maybe John did instill something in him.
Its funny though, after searching a bit to try and find some counters to this, I came across an old DailyKOS article that disputes it and says Lennon was a lefty until death.
But the funny part is this quote,
"Now at this point some people are going to step in and defend the 'good' republicans they know. I sometimes make exceptions for old friends and family myself. But I must confess that I find it very hard to rationalize the fact that anyone can still self-identify as a republican after 8 years of the Bush/Cheney rape of America
It's not cool to love war and all republicans are 'strong on defense,' which is their euphemistic way of saying pro-war, pro-empire and pro-Military Industrial Complex. John was pretty damned clear on his views regarding war and war mongers. He was against them. Just consider his life's work (but for rightwingers this may seem too much like looking at the facts)."
This was written before Trump of course, and after 4 years of Obama policies that essentially mirrored Bush/Cheney policies.
Isn't it funny, leftists are only anti war when there's a moderate/conservative in power. When their own people are in power, bombs away.
Trump is the most anti-war president we've had in modern times, yet of course he is still reviled. Just shows you how hypocritical the left is.
I refuse to link to the actual Yahoo Music article where it was suggested, because I refuse to visit Yahoo. But there you go.
Personally, I'd rather put a gun in my mouth than listen to John Lennon crooning about anything. Dude was a drug addict, horrible father and beat women. Just like George Floyd.
Imagine is the worst song everrr.
Battle Hymn of the Republic should be the response. (Irritating to the Karenwaffen).
"What? Don't you want a song sung on the way to free the slaves?"
I recommend "Dixie".
Or Layla by Eric Clapton. Makes as much sense.

One hopes.
Imagine is about Utopia. When I was younger, I thought it was a vision of heaven. Now I know it's hell.

And the song is pretty much the Communist Utopia ... needed dead bodies to get there not mentioned.
