Though I'm not a DAR member (Daughters of the Revolutionary War), my ancestor was among the Regulators at the Battle of Guilford County Courthouse. I've heard it said this battle led up to the Revolutionary War.
There were definitely many patriots in Guilford County. My family was among the first to settle in NC, beginning in the late 17th century. Durham is named after a family member, as is Winston-Salem. They were among the first to settle in western NC in Buncombe Cty. Some of them are buried on the grounds of what became Biltmore. It is a shame to see what is happening to NC. The people need to rise up and take it back. NC is one of the most beautiful states in the union, and we cannot cede it to the leftist trash.
During vacation 1996 I made across-country trip to visit distant cousins in Guilford and Alamance counties. (Their ancestor being brother to mine, both Revolutionary War soldiers.) So I can vouch for what you said, that NC is one of the most beautiful states in the Union.
edit: BTW, when I was visiting these cousins, they took me sight-seeing at Black Mountain in Buncombe County. So I know that area, too.
Back in the day, Buncombe County was huge and encompassed a big part of western NC. I bought land there a few years ago, right up the mountain from where some of my ancestors used to live. Was hoping to build a cabin there with cool temps in the summer and beautiful views. Definitely have those plans on hold for the time being.
Sad to hear.

A friend of mine used to work at Biltmore, used to help with the horses.
