That's only the natural progression of liberalism, all of the smart people with real degrees go and get real jobs while the only ones brainwashed liberals can get with their worthless education is in education.
They know federal loans are backed by the government so they prey on young high school kids and tell them college is the only way they can make money.
So they get the degree, get 50k in debt, and work a job that barely covers rent and loan payments.
Colleges dont care because if you default on your loans, its backed by the federal government. So they still get their money and continue preying on the young.
Not to mention, if an individual declares bankruptcy, even if they didn’t earn a degree, they still have to pay their student loans! Total double standard.
Liberal universities became even more liberal over the years, which was bad enough. More recently they've instituted Marxist policies and educational programs, and research based on narrative rather than science. The result is we're turning out graduates with ridiculous debt who can't survive independent of the narrative or the politics.
The majority of people don't seem to understand college, including most who attend and get degrees. Yes there are major issues with costs and the incestuous govt relationship, but in theory, you're selecting a general career to study and bolster yourself in non-related classes to make you a better player in our overall game. One of the most idiotic ideas is that degree = jobs. Only in niche careers (even if they're large and important sectors) does that somewhat fly. Like you would be without college, in life you're working to show your merit and thus promise in order to be selected for a position. No matter what you choose to do, you being a well-rounded and thoughtful person is going to make you better at whatever it is you choose to do. Basket weaving included. Is a degree in basket weaving guaranteeing you a high paying job with benefits? FUCK NO. Are there basket weavers out there making more money than accountants and engineers. Not many, but there are. Why? Because they worked hard enough and found enough luck (the muse comes to those at work) to make it happen. Perhaps taking that logic class and european history class and econ and finance classes gave them a better POV and sharper view in order to make their dreams come true? The accountant who gets a degree and barely passes and didn't do an internship and is ignorant as a human prob isn't gonna find a job either.
TL;DR college is supposed to be utilized in that you're honing and grooming yourself through a variety of knowledge and social experience to become a better player in our game of life, and thus more ready to achieve your dreams. If you can achieve that in school, then the costs are "worth it." Most people don't think about this at all and mindlessly sit through classes to get that degree, which is why a lot of people exiting college are as dumb as they were before, or dumber.
Just look at people's attitude in college. All my friends were like "what class can I take that's an easy A?" And then the people who are like "I don't need to understand this, I just need to know how to do it on the test". That's the issue in my opinion - nobody is taking the education seriously and are just trying to skate by, party for 4 years, and expect a good job from it. And I definitely partied my ass of inn college, but I worked my ass off too.
That's the idea of college. The reality of it, for many students, is an overpriced resort experience where they hone their bong ripping and fornication skills.
The great fallacy of the American higher ed scam, is that those who don't attend Uni are just sitting around collecting dust while the college kids are bettering themselves. On top of being incredibly insulting, this idea is also incorrect. Millions of people enter the workforce straight after HS and use those real world experiences to learn, hone themselves, become more complete people, etc.
Fact is, the information age has commoditized access to knowledge such that most everything one might learn in a University program is available for free online. So the real delineators between the degreed and those without, are the social class structure Trump is trying to tear down with this order, and laziness, since a sufficiently motivated person would just go learn the material themselves and not pay the 100k bill.
They were always worthless. The only people who did something with their liberal art degree was because they were just self-motivated to learn other stuff on their own. The degree didn't do shit for them.
long ago liberal arts degrees were what the very rich would go to school for because it would provide them with "culture". because they came from money they very likely did not have to worry about learning marketable skills in order to be financially secure, so the "culture" aspect was literally to make young men and women not be boring when they'd go to high society functions like balls and the like.
TLDR : Commies have hi-jacked our schools and are waging a war against the hard sciences and data, to the point where even lefties and progressives from the hard sciences are sounding the alarm that war has started against facts and truth by people who seek to gain power through any means necessary
This reminded me of one time my friend got me to go to some shitty live music event. At a shitty museum. Cheap beer so, fuck it. Got there, really liberal crap. Uugghhh. Girls with the stupid hair colors, you know, typical liberal shit. Soy boys everywhere. I turn to my friend and say “look! Useless liberal art degrees everywhere.”.
Translation: liberal arts degrees are worthless and the big academia cash cow is dying fast.
Old guy and academic here. Academia did it to themselves.
Academia has been the front lines of identity politics / Marxism, and it will hopefully be the first to crumble. Next up: Silicon Valley please.
Silicon Valley is coming, especially with moves like the H1B order.
Ah, great point! Didn't think of that one.
That's only the natural progression of liberalism, all of the smart people with real degrees go and get real jobs while the only ones brainwashed liberals can get with their worthless education is in education.
What makes you say that?
Look at the riots. Where do you think the young people are being indoctrinated at?
I just wanted to hear this gentleman’s perspective or gentlewoman. Thank you kind,Sir.
Too greedy.

Love your username. Reminds me of a better, simpler time. reminds me of James Herriot.
Ironically, the first "grown up" book I ever read was "All Things Bright and Beautiful".
when were liberal art degrees ever not worthless? serious question

Ive read a lot of great comments on here today, but yours is so top notch I actually saved it to absorb better later, on a 2nd run.
Edit: Im also proof of the latter, lmfao, Im a full stack software engineer and my education cost $400 or so online, over the past 3 years.. Hahahaha.
hey i have an art degree and work IT now
its not what you study its what kinda person you are

Not a bad opinion. I like it!
Listen to the joe Rogan podcast with Bret Weinstein. Some interesting prospective.
Can you elaborate?
TLDR : Commies have hi-jacked our schools and are waging a war against the hard sciences and data, to the point where even lefties and progressives from the hard sciences are sounding the alarm that war has started against facts and truth by people who seek to gain power through any means necessary
Nailed it. Literally it’s ‘facts are racist and we must dismantle science and start over’
Weinstein was the professor at Evergreen that disagreed with the whole black for a day thing. Had great insight into academia. Smart guy. Episode 1494
Which episode number?
