Based on my online research, even in the absence of a "right to drive through protesters" law, you're still covered by the fact that "protesters" can't occupy roads meant for vehicular traffic and basic self-defense. That is, people can't just detain you arbitrarily.
This driver:
Went very slowly until his vehicle was hit
Reported the incident to police immediately afterwards
It seems like most drivers who get prosecuted hit the gas too early or intentionally steered into people.
The right of self defense/personal safety and right of way laws are on your side. My only concern is having activist prosecutors or even cops involved. But better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Use the power and momentum of that 3000lb machine and just stay on the gas just like this person did. Give them a chance to move away for a few feet then gradually increase speed so more loons don't get out in front of the car. You just can't make the incident look retaliatory. It has to look like and should be an act of self-preservation.
Pregnant wife. Did everything right.
Feels like an n=1 case study.
