I am sitting at my normal watering hole on this Friday night.
I have a professional day job. I am also a musician. I decided to sit out on a gig tonight. I’m glad I did.
I packed up my tobacco pipe and headed to my bar. I found a friend of mine as I walked in. He is a very vocal liberal. Hates GEOTUS and everything about him. Fine, whatever.
We talked. It somehow shifted to politics. Weird, since I never bring it up if I know I disagree with whom I am speaking with.
He started ranting about Trump. I listened, as always. I didn’t debate. I just listened.
Then, he did something that flipped a switch.
He called me a racist.
I said absolutely nothing racist. I didn’t defend my political beliefs while he was ranting.
He called me “inherinly racist” for being white. He’s white.
I fucking lost it.
I’m not going to go into what I said due to me not wanting to give too many clues about myself and inadvertently doxxing myself to a fucking leftist. But, I will say that I feel invigorated.
I finally started offering rebuttals to stupid leftist shit on social media.
I’m. Done.
I voted for him in 2016 and (cue Goofy meme) I’ll fucking do it again.
Trump 2020. Let’s Make America Great Again once more, Pedes.
I refuse debate or discussion anymore. My rebuttal to every leftist talking point or accusal:
"Okay. I'm still voting for Trump."
The goal post moving is endless when you offer debate.
They will deny and ignore facts, reality, and any proof you show them.
Then they will lie, lie, lie some more and argue strawmans and what ifs.
After you've debunked all of their insane talking points, they will resort to playing word games with you.
If they still don't give up, they'll just end the insanity by calling you names.
It's pointless to argue with leftists and Democrats.
It always goes straight to, "You're the reason everyone thinks Trump supporters are stupid." Every. Single. Time. It's always the go to.
Tell them "You're the reason your father killed himself."
Won't work on everyone, until you find the right person.
More accurately:
I find this to be a scarily accurate summary of what every single debate I’ve had with a leftist is like
Now I just don’t bother and move directly to ridicule
That is one thing that made me give up having political discussions with Leftists. It happen when I was talking to colleagues a few times. Each time they were all fired up over something about Trump, and I had a chance to research Shealy they were talking about, it was outright false. However whenever politics come up, I inform people as quickly as appropriate that I voted for Trump (just so they know who they are talking to), but I politely refuse to debate. I tell them I have no desire to change their mind, and I just wanted to be open about where I stand for conversation’s sake. I think it might piss them off even more because it takes away their ability to browbeat and bitch
Ever slum around in r/AskTrumpSupporters? It's shit, don't bother. Olympic level goalpost moving from the non-supporters, all the time. (Bonus: I got a 1 day suspension for calling out someone for moving goalposts).
Quit going to that site years ago. Too many people there who have never set foot outside and just rage about everything.
I've found when they debate you their entire strategy seems to be to constantly shift what the debate is actually about until you get confused and sound stupid.
What's the saying?
“Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.”
Or
"Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."
Their only way of reeedeeming their views is to reeesort to insult, accusation, and irrational behavior.
This is what kills me. Whenever I bring up the good things Trump has done, the programmed response is “Well he just did that to make himself look good.” Okay, even if that’s true, it IS good for us so who cares? The end result is that he wins and we win, why is that a bad thing?
anything that is good for us, by definition, makes trump look good ...
Exactly! I can’t fathom how that’s seen as a good rebuttal to anything. Is he supposed to only do things that make him look bad?
I’m officially done w debating as well. In 2016 I threw out every single red pill around. Foreign policies, Veterans policies, Wikileaks, anti-lobbyist, anti-globalist, anti-Isis, anti-nation-building.
I lost nearly every single friend. For real. Hundreds of former co-workers & also every longtime “friend” I’ve known for years. Even a close Black friend who was in my wedding party, called me racist after he won.
They refuse to see it. And I am officially done wasting my energy. Life is beautiful. This country is magnificent. And I’m grateful for all of you here who recognize the same truths that I see too!
Lost many "friends" in 2016 as well. But I gained hundreds of thousands of REAL frens on r/T_D and now here. No-brainer of a trade. Art of the Deal, baby. 10/10 would do it again.
Oh shoot!... I forgot to add an important part...
100% would do it exactly the same. I feel liberated.
If ppl disown you bc they’re bigots, I’m better off without them.
you have to do what is right
Large friend groups are a mile wide but an inch deep.
Or this. Say "everyone is entitled to thier own opinion. You believe I am a racist. I believe you are an idiot."
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
I believe we should still debate, bit with a limit. Offer facts and your opinion calmly, they of course won't listen, then sure, default to "I'm still voting for Trump." But we should never give up totally on spreading the truth even if it is hopeless with so many of these people.
Debates are not for the opponent, but to make your case to the silent observer.
Truth! I'm one of those silent observers. Believe it or not, I learned a ton and grew as a person in a way I couldn't have in my normal environment thanks to being exposed to different arguments on the internet. Making an argument is always better than not, especially when you can actually back it up.
It's harder now to get through to people on the internet than it was before, though. In old internet times before every post was given a social credit score, people had to read the words and make a judgment call for themselves weighing the argument being made. Nowadays, if your post isn't outright hidden by a negative score, it carries with it an immediate value judgement given by others. Now, If someone makes what I think is a good point, but their score is at -100, was it actually a good point or did I make a mistake? Everyone around me thinks otherwise, so I must have missed something...
This may be another reason why memes do so well, because they can be distributed everywhere as-is and don't carry a score around with them that could externally sway one's opinion.
this
the opponent is the canvas for you to paint on for the observers to see
Great point!
Nah, they secretly (tee hee) know that they'll be installing a president via the VP choice and (tee hee) they think they're being clever about it.
