I watched one of them lead a protest, and in his view, Lincoln didnt free the slaves. They freed themselves. And Lincoln being higher up then the freed slave shows that he's dominate over the black man.

I came here to say it's because it reminds them their ancestors couldn't free themselves. Because they're collectivist, they have no individual sense of accomplishment, only collective accomplishment. So they're doubly offended by our nation's history of successfully freeing ourselves from imperialist British colonial rule, AND their own collective's inability to do the same for themselves.
