Yes indeed. I grew up with public schooling and heard again and again about MCarthy being a paranoid loony who unjustly persecuted people, so I accepted their designation of "McCarthyism" being synonymous with that behavior. They were SO afraid of him, and he was SO right.

The hilarious part is that he underestimated the communist rot that had taken effect in all leveks of government, academia, and entertainment.

It's ironic they used to tell us "McCarthyism" is all about blacklisting people because of their beliefs, yet they deny Cancel Culture is even a real thing.

Basic rule of thumb for the left; whatever they’re pissed about, they are guilty of 10x over

Varangian 1 point ago +1 / -0

The blacklisting wasn’t Joe. It was the House UnAmerican Activities Committee, or HUAC. Joe was a Senator, and JFK’s best friend in the Senate.

That's not what they taught me in Public school. Are you saying we were lied to :0

CitizenPlain 25 points ago +25 / -0

The fact that is public school's position should be evidence it is true.

His assessment was actually short of the true number by nearly half.

This was discovered when the Soviet and KGB archives were opened after the dissolution of the USSR.

Varangian 2 points ago +2 / -0

But the Army knew. They had the Venona transcripts all along.

"They were SO afraid of him, and he was SO right."

They were SO afraid of him, because he was SO right.

They actually made it part of the lesson plan to equate the Salem witch hunt trials to McCarthyism in my school. I feel stupid for not realizing how much I got played by the false analogy. Witches and magic isn't real. Communism is.

6
WhitePowerRanger 6 points ago +7 / -1

Lol communism isn’t real. That’s like saying utopia is real. It’s a bullshit concept with a bullshit implementation that doesn’t account for the one variable that matters, humans having brains. It’s an ideology at best and if magic and witches were just euphemisms for communism and commies, then I’m all for burning them.

He didn’t finish.

24
Cue_Cumber 24 points ago +24 / -0

Yeah. I came to the conclusion McCarthy was right, maybe a dozen or so years ago. But just recently it occurred to me -- the senator who called him out, "Have you no shame, sir? At last, have you no shame?" That guy. Who was he? No! I mean, who was he really?

16
Mexicola1976 16 points ago +16 / -0

It wasn't a senator. It was army officer Joseph Welch who was the lead attorney in the Army vs McCarthy hearings. He also intimated that McCarthy, Roy Cohn, and G. David Schine were fags. He was right about Cohn.

I don't think his numbers were that high- he severely underestimated the communist infestation. That's the cruel irony of the whole situation. He was made a pariah and drank himself to death and he was right.

It wasnt that long ago that even wapo was admitting he was right. https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/opinions/1996/04/14/was-mccarthy-right-about-the-left/a0dc6726-e2fd-4a31-bcdd-5f352acbf5de/ It's so sad how far gone things have become in such a short time.

The plan to degenerate the Western family - the base unit of civilization - started way before that, too. Entertainment and media had been completely infiltrated by leftist agitators since before 1900, and we never recovered. The only time tradition really had a fighting shot was during the Beat period - by the time the hippies came, the cracks in the foundation were pronounced enough to behave blatantly degenerate.

All the Hollywood blacklists were was an attempt by some studio heads to superficially appease the public anxiety about Communists. Some were punished and came upon hard times, like director Joseph Losey - but even he kept entertaining leftist artists and found a resurgence once the Beat era/early hippies became the producers.

They've always had contempt for you and your family, and have always wanted you dead and out of the way.

people will talk about this era of american history and use terms like "witch hunt" and "the red scare" like everybody was freaked out over nothing, but then also say that for the next 30-40 years everyone in america lived under constant terror of imminent nuclear annihilation

either the communists are a threat so we need to make sure they haven't infiltrated our government, or they aren't a threat and there's no need to live in constant fear of the bombs dropping. thats what orwell meant by doublethink, that you could believe in two things that are simultaneously contradictory

In 1953, Bobby Kennedy worked as an assistant counsel to the House Un-American Activities Committee chaired by Senator Joseph McCarthy. I could never figure out why. Now, I do. https://consortiumnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/RFKWithMcCarthy.jpg

I’ve puzzled for years why the Army didn’t act knowing they had the Venona papers.

I’ve decided, after much deliberation their strategy was similar to the decision not to act on intercepts from the Nazi Enigma code. They’d know we’d cracked them, and change everything. I don’t know if I agree with that strategy, but the alternative is swift decisive action with attendant “blowback”.

A massive nuclear first strike for instance, however justified would look pretty bad.
Of course winners write history, but it would have been hard to live down.

Hollywood made even a movie called Trumbo with Bryan Cranston about Trumbo and a large group of Hollywood people being Communists .

Blows me away that even during that time people called him crazy when you had people openly admitting to be Communists.

The movie goes to make all Christians look pathetic and down right evil.

I'm getting sick of the hypocritical bullshit.

Communists killed more people than all past wars for one thousands years combined in just ww2.

Time to fucking destroy every square inch of communist strong holds.

Few of us survived the Joe McCarthy holocaust of the early 1950s…
