Could be, the footage wasn't great and the cameraman sensibly got the hell out of Dodge as soon as it started. Who knows how many UC cops were in that crowd. I think anyone still going to these things is just begging for trouble from both sides of the law.

Yeah I think it is a pistol. Just look at his body positions as the guy in front of him begins shooting. It appears he has a pistol in a low ready position, but doesn't know if the shooter is defending himself or attacking so he doesn't take aim.
