"4 weeks of continuous exposure" kinda like the 3 months we have been forced to wear a cloth mask when we go out in public.
the mask isn't to protect the wearer, it's to protect other people from the wearer. only very special very certain masks keep bad shit out but most of masks are not capable of stopping virus particles from entering the mask because of their incredibly small size. It doesn't matter if masks help prevent the spread. Doesn't matter if people are wearing them improperly. The virus death rate was so low even before mask wearing started and continues to be. The issue is that the government is mandating an article of clothing which has never been done in the history of this country.
the study states :
"We have provided the first clinical efficacy data of cloth masks, which suggest HCWs should not use cloth masks as protection against respiratory infection."
"We also showed that filtration was extremely poor (almost 0%) for the cloth masks."
"Observations during SARS suggested double-masking and other practices increased the risk of infection because of moisture, liquid diffusion and pathogen retention.31 These effects may be associated with cloth masks."
"The study suggests medical masks may be protective, but the magnitude of difference raises the possibility that cloth masks cause an increase in infection risk in HCWs."
"it is important to consider the potential risk of using cloth masks."
That study simply says that cloth masks are not sufficient for healthcare workers, due to the quantity of virus they are exposed to.
No shit, Sherlock.
Surgical masks (medical masks) are better, but still not ideal.
This is why every healthcare professional who had to deal with COVID-19 patients had N95 respirators, or if they could get their hands on it, N99 / FFP3 respirators.
A cloth mask is a lousy option, but can still protect against the biggest droplets - that's how the chinavirus spreads. That study you quoted is not about the Chinese virus SARS-Cov-2.
So you're wrong if you say it's useless. It's not useless. It helps. Probably only a little bit, but it does help.
Then if for you it's not worth it, that's your opinion and that's fine.
