I hear you, I picked up 200 rounds for my .45, paid $0.40 a round, compared to the brass I got for $1.40. Brass for defense, aluminum for the range, and good cleaning in between.
230 grain FMJ slugs. Was ALL they had when I went up there, and were reserving that for people that were buying guns. So, I also had to buy another gun :) There's a run on .45 here in Louisiana.
Since the Whu Flu and the "Peaceful Protests" ammo is in short supply.
A quality HP such as 50 Rounds of Federal Premium 9mm 124 Grain HST JHP LE runs $45.00 plus ship and tax... if you can find it. Local gun shops are raping people right now.
So $1.00+ per round is not unheard of for popular calibers.
On a side note, I picked up 1000 rds. of .357 Sig LE for less than 9mm which is unheard of. Again, supply and demand.

We GOT to have .45 down here. Damn rats are too big for 9mm. https://youtu.be/AladRZv_pAo?t=176
