I always wondered 10+ years ago how bad this generation would be when they came to age. I remember this trail I would go run on, when little boys fell and bumped their knee, holy crap you could hear the screaming and crying. Some of it by much older children, and the boys were bigger crybabies than the girls.
The coddling coming from the parents. No score sports. Kids that had never been told no. Kids telling their parents off and telling their parents what the rules are. I have friends that I have nothing to do with because their kids are such brats. They demand to be respected yet they have no respect for anyone.
Mercurochrome or merthiolate.
My grandfather swore by them, and if the injury bled enough to warrant being cleaned out, my cousins and I were promptly marched out to the barn (where he kept them) and treated.
So, as you can guess, we tended to not think our injuries were bad enough to warrant treating most of the time...my pony stepped on my bare feet and broke my toes (and cut them pretty badly); my cousin shot my other cousin in the leg with a BB gun; we hid these from my grandpa for most of the day....
Yes, we got spanked for both shooting BBs at each other and playing around ponies in bare feet.
