That was generally true -- I know from my time in the "Trans" community, such as it was, that male to female was far more common than female to male.

Which is why this new outbreak of teen girls trying to become boys is so ... interesting. It's unusual, and seems to be a social contagion, especially through the internet.

That's different from what the culture was like 10 or 20 years ago.

A few things....

  1. G-d

  2. Learning not to hate men even before I got heavily into crossdressing. (Think Robert Bly and Iron John)

  3. Even though I experimented with guys I prefer women. Marriage and children.

  4. I used to lurk on a couple blogs by married women who lost their husbands when they went trans. The pain in those essays helped keep me grounded in who I needed to be.

Personally I realized that living inside my head that much was selfish. Even if there was a magic gender switch I'd still be an incomplete person. Now I want to be valuable to my community and have a big family.
