Which is why this new outbreak of teen girls trying to become boys is so ... interesting. It's unusual, and seems to be a social contagion, especially through the internet.
That's different from what the culture was like 10 or 20 years ago.

Even though I experimented with guys I prefer women. Marriage and children.
I used to lurk on a couple blogs by married women who lost their husbands when they went trans. The pain in those essays helped keep me grounded in who I needed to be.
Personally I realized that living inside my head that much was selfish. Even if there was a magic gender switch I'd still be an incomplete person. Now I want to be valuable to my community and have a big family.
