It's only if you want their verified tag you have to do that. I contacted their support staff about it because their is no options for non-US users to be verified, and between my phone number, email address and drivers license, you have all the info you need to steal my identity in Australia.
I didn't have a problem signing up. It does make you give a phone number which I did not like at first but if that helps eliminate Chinese bots, I'm cool with it.
Trump needs to delete his Twitter the day he his elected for a second term. He’s using the platform for free campaigning. No reason to stay once he is re-elected...unless he plans to start his own platform once the 8 years are done.
From what I hear it's a speed bump in their progress. I think that most people that use Twitter have ego's that need strangers to see. If they feel limited to only people "in their club" it's throttling them.

Also Gab is overrun by genuine, hardcore, "Kill the darkies," racists, which makes it hard to want to be associated with it.
