This website appears out of nowhere, broadly claims to be a free speech platform, overtakes Twitter in the app store overnight, has no issues with latency due to massive amounts of people flooding it, and no one is even trying to attack it or take it down? This doesn't seem organic. This isn't what happened with Gab, Minds, or any other genuine platform that has tried to replace Twitter/FB.

The fact that they require a phone number on sign up is a little suspect too, and I know some people have claimed that they're getting banned or their posts are getting deleted.

Bongino invested in it and some other guys and are campaigning. As far as latency it has a lot of issues when you upload. But on the other hand it will probably turn into a shit show once a silicon valley elite offers to buy it.

Assuming it’s cloud-hosted which means it can dynamically expand to meet demand. Elasticity means latency won’t be a problem no matter how big the flood of new users. Plus it’s not new, I signed up last year.

We're cloud hosted too and .win still chunks during big events (earlier today, for example). A sudden massive spike in traffic like what Parler has been experiencing would affect all but the most robust hosting platforms with massive dedicated servers.

When I said they appeared out of nowhere, I guess I meant more that they appeared "on the radar", not so much that the platform was only just created.

I guess I'm just suspicious is all... why Parler? Why not Minds? Or others? Too controversial?

Dynamic, responsive elasticity is one of the selling points of platforms like Azure, and they’re specifically designed to respond to usage spikes. So I still don’t see the lack of latency as a suspicious sign of anything.

Re the uptake - I guess all those options have been around for a while, and this is probably how it was always going to happen: a critical mass of content creators go to one platform and sooner or later that tips the scales. It’s like VHS vs Betamax, it wasn’t technology that won the war but content. So the answer to why are people using Parler is because people are using Parler.

I don't think Parler is new, it's been around for a while, but it's taking off now for some reason, but yeah some things are a bit suspicious and i'm still wary of it.

Says the guy who links Twitter in posts. So Twitter is okay but a site assisted/partially owned by Bongino is suspect?

Twitter isn't okay either. But it's where information is. If information was elsewhere, I'd use those sources instead.

I didn't know about the Bongino connection. Does he actually own it or did he just invest in it?

Just because I trust him, doesn't mean I automatically trust all of his associations. He uses Twitter too.

That's the problem. Twitters is where information should be, but it's not because the way they it is run and by whom. Bongino states he is "part owner"....I am not sure what that means, I am sure he explained it at some point. But how he talks, it is more than 'I own a bunch of Parler stock.' If people did not see a problem with the way a platform was run and create an alternative, you wouldn't be making a post about how you mistrust Parler. I don't trust .win. It's come out of nowhere....

I’m a little wary as well.
