Also, for the record, I was conceal carrying and would have legally been able to shoot him. I chose to fight instead. In hindsight I should have shot him.
I was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. The two people I supposedly assaulted lied to the police to try and get me in trouble. When they knocked on my door and tried to interrogate me, I told them no I wasn't going to say anything without a lawyer present.
The DA eventually dropped the charges because the evidence was poor (just the two eye witnesses, a drunkard hothead and his girlfriend whom he's been convicted of beating up) and they had a decent chance of losing the case. I, and my lawyer, are pretty sure me not talking to the police saved the case for me, because I almost assuredly would have said something incriminating. I mean, that's what the police do for a living, They get paid to do interviews to help convict people.

Here the thing. Cops are authorized to use deadly force for a vehicle coming at them, cause a vehicle is potential deadly force. If a person or persons have the tenacity to put themselves in a deadly situation like standing in front of a vehicle, especially moving, there is a reasonable chance they are preparing or at least willing to exercise their own lethal force against the occupant of the vehicle. Same as when apparently unarmed people come after armed cops. It doesn't take much to go from blocking the path of a vehicle to being perceived as a deadly threat.
