Hey guys, I voted Trump in 2016. To make it quick, I fell in love with that Yang guy and although my opinion on UBI remains my own, I'm voting Trump in 2020. The left is showing its true colors and red pills are flying. The slow smothering of free speech has become a desperate strangle. I know you guys will fight for anyone right to speak so here I am to help fight for yours. God speed gentlemen. I hope you have meme magic for round two.
Edit: For old times sake, I disavow Yang and him selling out to CNN. TRUMP 2020 bb
Edit: Just wanted to Thank you all again. It was nice to say I support the President of the United States of America and not be deleted. Very cool website you got brewing here.
I don't know how someone could be in Yang's corner and switch to Trump.
I don't understand how you could vote for Trump in 2016, but not in 2020. That makes zero fucking sense.
I didn't vote for Trump (voted Johnson) and liked Yang initially. He seemed more sensible than the other Leftist loons. UBI isn't anathema to conservatives. Once I learned Milton Friedman supported a negative income tax (similar to a UBI) I warmed up to it. If it was used to reduce the size of government by abolishing much of the programs and agencies like Friedman desired then most conservatives would also see its benefit.
The problem I wonder about is how our capitalist system can continue when nearly half the population isn't needed. I mean we've already established whose "essential" and not by way of this pandemic. ~20% of the population is unemployed and the economy is trucking along fine without them. As more jobs are automated and people lose out, the economy will need continued infusion of capital from the rich who it continues to consolidate towards. My preference is for deregulation to incentivize competition and Trump to bust up some of the major corporations but I wonder if it can keep pace to the speed automation eliminates jobs.
Your preference seems like plugging the holes on a damn that is about to break. We cannot "compete" against technology.
Just like you said we all know who is essential now, and they will be targeted for automation. People say once we have fusion and its star trek then we can have UBI, but they don't understand there are steps to post-scarcity. It doesn't happen all at once, how long are your fellow citizens going to be forced to compete against automation when its profitability is in the hundreds of billions and your value is just you and your bootstraps. It's not about ideology its about scale, logarithmic growth, and time.
