Before you delete, you should scrub your post history and photos. Might take a while if you were an active user, but worth it.
Of course, we have no way to know for sure if your account was really deleted, but at least deleting stuff adds an extra step in the path of any future FB employee who wants to dig up a post from 2008 in order to discredit you.
I deleted mine the other day. It takes 30 days for it to actually go bye bye though.
