Uses like you mention make total sense. Just because you use their tool doesn't mean you have to fall victim to its social programming aspects. Use it for good things when you have to use it, and ignore the bad parts it encourages, like group think.
Also, only ever open facebook in incognito mode. So many sites now have FB trackers (those "share with FB", or "log in with FB" buttons).
If you are logged in then evertime you visit a site with a FB tracker, then FB gets more data on you. Incognito mode makes this harder, as you will never normally appear to be logged into Facebook.
And NEVER use the mobile app - always the browser. There's a reason that FB pays to make it's app undeletable on most smartphones now, and it isn't for your good.
I want to delete mine. I abandoned it for some years, but it is the only place I can connect with my spiritual and homeschooling groups...sigh.
