Actually the protestors were on their way to the mayors house which is further down the same private drive these people just happen to live at the beginning of. They were eating dinner on their front porch when they saw the mob coming through the front gate and reacted accordingly. They've in fact represented a black plaintiff against the police in a brutality lawsuit and donated $4k to democrats.
