Most gun stores have lousy inventories these days, you likely need to , first, wander thru a few stores and see what suits you. Some places allow you to rent and shoot a gun on site, so you can see what you are able to handle better, what fits your hands well.

Then you may have to order one either thru a local dealer or buy it online and shipped to your local dealer, because inventories are spotty today. Don't be suckered into buying something because it is all that's on the shelf, any dealer will order you whatever you want from the manufacturer, you just have to wait on it to show up.

Once you do decide on a type/model/caliber/etceteRAH compare prices at a few places, then pounce.

Find a local dealer, he may not have what you want but he will order it, then he will do your background paperworx, all for a slight fee of course but you pay for the background check regardless of where you buy it. If you shop around online and find a sale go tell your local dealer that's what you want, give him/her the link to it or whatever, they'll fix you up.
