I really miss old Reddit. You could go there to find a bunch of interesting shit about pretty much anything. Any time someone brought up sensationalized politics they got downvoted and told to fuck off.

Now you can’t go anywhere on that shithole without someone saying “fuck Trump” or “OMG these people aren’t wearing masks!”. And admins will ban you if you speak against it.

I don't miss it, because back then you could kind of tell how things were going, how power users/mods controlled content, used rules to control the narrative, how self congratulatory people were when they voted for Obama

You could see the writing on the wall for a while, but I think FatPeopleHate getting banned was the first tangible sign of Reddit's communism.

The funny part is FPH got banned not just for making fun of fat people, it was because IMGUR refused to host their pictures anymore, so people found publicly available pictures of the IMGUR staff and posted them.

You can imagine how buffets would lock the doors if this group of comrades were heading their way.

I remember a lot of reddit staff at the time were fat as fuck too. Probably still are.

The irony on that one was hilarious.

You could easily see it in how the rules were applied to posts or comments in big subs. Personal attacks against conservative people were allowed to fester for days, while those against leftists were removed immediately. I got banned for reporting stuff and asking why it wasn't taken down days later. That was 2014.

You could see it when people were critical of Obama. Or how articles were buried purposefully and if you tried to resubmit they would get removed for already covered story that was locked at like 12 karma.

There was a post a while ago that showed the biggest mods and power users controlled something like 80% of the content on reddit.

THIS. I would join in a heartbeat. That was my favorite sub before it got banned and before The_Donald.

That would be a massive website if word got out. I missed out on fph mostly. I may have seen the end of it, I can't remember.

Man I miss that sub, aside from the bad jokes there was a lot of motivation to get out and be active.

I'm still upset that they banned FPH

These people always put America last, even when they win their first thought is what the rest of the world will think.

So true... on r/Ireland there was a big thread the other day, someone was complaining about people not wearing masks on the bus and sitting in the “X” seats that you’re supposed to leave empty etc. A fairly normal discussion ensued, someone mentioned that early on the experts were telling people not to wear masks, now they’re saying wear them, so give people some latitude even though it’s rude not to wear one, etc....

Then someone starts a whole other discussion “derp, Americans are so derp, they refuse to wear masks because politics, derp, Orange Man Bad” etc. Of course the usual anti-American, anti-Drumpf circle-jerk followed.

TLDR: “If an Irish person isn’t wearing a mask, he probably has a good reason, but if a yank isn’t wearing a mask it’s because he supports Drumpf.” -- r/Ireland.
