Same I joined reddit in 2009.

Back then, the most common phrase used was "I disagree with you, but I'll defend your right to say it".

What happened?

You used to be able to see the upvote/downvote ratio of every post on reddit, and I've watched over the years as pro free-speech sentiments went from overwhelmingly positive scores to barely outnumbering the downvotes. It was a sickening phenomenon to witness in a community where you thought you were in good company.
