My gf works in an office with about thirty other people. ALL except 2 of them work from home now and there's no rusk to have everybody back at the office when they're just as productive working from home. Her boss said they may not renew the lease. the will more than likely lese a much smaller space.
Also there's a 4-story office build down the road from me. it used to be full of cars. not anymore. Most seem to be the type of business's where employees could potentially work from home. if people work from home, corporations could hire people from anywhere in the world. it will make outsourcing much easier. How is that a good thing. Working from home seems it may be the normal.
On one hand people have no cummute and spend less on gas and wear and tear on their car. Large corporations will also reduse their office space and save money and pay less in property taxes if they own the buildings. We may see a lot of empty buildings.
The down side is that if the city receives less money from big business for city, school, and state taxes my taxes will probably increase to make up for that.
I believe that this will be the new normal. There are local tradesmen here that park their work truck at home and are assigned work at job sites via the internet. Daily meetings are conducted using the internet via Zoom or Jitsi or other meeting software.
Governments will increase taxes to fill the requirements of their workforce. Actually, governments are the most inefficient part of our economy. IMO. Public education is a highly inefficient way to educate.
