You have the right idea about running them over. Just don't swerve to hit more than necessary. But FLOOR it!
Re: the "trip is over" part. Can you shift plans to go somewhere other than Eugene? There's SO much in that area ... normally it's a nice ski town. Btw telemark skiing is cheap af, and the season there starts on Memorial Day

Just in passing, if you can't have your own gun there, my last line of defense is a mini sledge hammer in my strong hand and a 10" flat blade screwdriver in the other. Absolutely brutal if it ever needs to be used. Doesn't take that much force with either to seriously deter aggression. A hand held sledge comes to a blunt point on one end. 1.5 or 2# may be comfortable for you. Hopefully you don't even come close to thinking about needing it, but you're instantly much less of a victim than bare handed.
