Absolutely brutal if it ever needs to be used. Doesn't take that much force with either to seriously deter aggression. A hand held sledge comes to a blunt point on one end. 1.5 or 2# may be comfortable for you. Hopefully you don't even come close to thinking about needing it, but you're instantly much less of a victim than bare handed.
