I think a lot of us are in the same boat. When I see videos of “peaceful protesters” now opening fire on cars trying to get through, while the police do nothing... This is going to be hard to come back from, especially with police and government making it a point to only go after regular citizens defending themselves.
Unfortunately for my job, I am all over LA throughout the week. I know it’s illegal and everyone is going to jump on my ass about it, but in my truck I have my pistol out of sight but accessible and my loaded AR behind the back seat. I have a concealed carry permit from out of state and had been a public safety officer for a decade but it’s still illegal to carry at all here. It’s bullshit that I have to choose between losing my freedom or protecting my family. I’ll be judged by a jury any day before I see my family pulled from the car by a mob though.
I started my firearms collection already living ass-deep living in CA, so as a result I never even bothered to pick up anything even remotely concealable. That was an oversight. Now, of course, Glock 43s (and anything comparable) are going for $1000 on CalGuns, and my handguns are full-size service pistols; no concealment option for me without printing like the Federal Reserve. But I'm not going to jump on you for it; definitely was considering the same thing. If shit gets dicey again here I'll get creative in finding a place in a small sedan to cram a USP .45.
On the one hand I don't really blame the CalGuns sellers for gouging the first-time panickers, but as a panicker once (first-time buyer in 2008, paid a good chunk of change over market for a clunky-ass Sig 556 that had been through the ringer, rode hard, put away wet, because I thought new federal regs might spark new even-worse CA regs and it was a last-chance situation), I also still think they're kind of twats. I still have the bloody thing, too, though I haven't shot it in years.
3 years ago my dad said it would probably be civil war and I said that’s crazy.
Now I wanna know where the new continental army is meeting up lol
