Not because I was mentally ill or lazy, but because my then-husband stole everything from me through fraud. He only got away with it because he bribed someone with pull. Left me penniless, homeless, and with a chronic illness that took years to overcome. I had to go to the library to apply for jobs and keep my phone charged. It wasn't a fun time. You couldn't tell I was homeless, though. I looked normal. No one would know if I didn't tell them -- and I didn't want anyone to know. And I haven't given up.
