They are all quoting "new research from the National Bureau of Economic Research" as their source. But here is the deal.
The "new research" they are talking about is in the National Bureau of Economic Research "Working Paper" series. What does that mean? Not much. ANYONE who is a member of the National Bureau of Economic Research--there are hundreds and maybe thousands of members--can submit their unpublished draft to the Working Paper series. There is no peer-review process for this. They are not published papers. Yet the media is treating this as if it came out in the American Economic Review or Quarterly Journal of Economics.
What the hell? How many federal departments are there??? I thought I'd hear them all.
