The Republicans were doing bad up until Reagan. They've been doing better and better since then. Now, Republicans control the most seats in state Houses by several hundred, have more Governors, and control the Senate and Presidency.
If the Boomers are so conservative, why were unions so strong most of their lives, only growing weaker as other generations came of age? If Gen X is so liberal, why are there fewer gun controls now than in the '80s? And why did things like gay marriage have to be pushed through the courts as state after state voted to make it illegal recently, yet abortion was well on its way to being legalized through state votes before Roe v. Wade?

The US is getting more conservative, and that's the reason for the push from under-the-covers socialism to full blown active Communist insurgency. (That and we were trying the Southern strategy in the cities, and that's pissing in Dem's pool so they freaked out.)
